Once again, the CBSS was invited to participate in the Forum Strategov 25-26 October in St. Petersburg. This year’s Forum focused strongly on sustainable development and the integration of the SDGs, climate agenda and green transitions into the regional and cities’ development plans.
Our Director General Mr. Grzegorz M. Poznański addressed the participants at the Opening Plenary Session and thanked for many years of cooperation, especially in co-organisation of the Forum’s “Green Agenda”.
This year CBSS Secretariat contributed to several sessions:
- “SDGs Implementation: Financing, Monitoring, and Best Practice in Cities and Regions” (in close cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation);
- “Innovative Platform and Tools for Transition to a Circular Economy to Achieve the SDGs in the Baltic Sea Region”, where the CBSS CSO Chairman Mr. Olav Berstad shared the Norwegian experience as well as the priorities of our Expert Group on Sustainable Development;
- “Game of Goals Sustainability Accelerator: Bet on Zero”;
- Working Meeting “Prospects for International Cooperation to Develop Sustainable Yacht Tourism in Russia” .
Award for “Sustainability Initiatives”
The CBSS was awarded the Green Mobility Award by the Forum for Sustainability Initiatives, such as advancing the SDGs and implementing the first Baltic 2030 Action Plan.
Launch of the Baltic Leadership Programme “Neighbours”
After the Forum, the Baltic Leadership Programme (BLP) “Neighbours” took place. It gathered the BLP organisers and confirmed partners from the regions and cities of North West Russia (in person), pan-Baltic organisations such as Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) and Baltic Sea States Sub-regional Cooperation (BSSSC) and the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) Policy Area Coordinators (online). The participants heard an address by the CBSS Secretariat Director General Grzegorz Poznański, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative Igor Kapyrin, Consul General of Sweden Jan Lundin, and Director General of the Leontief Centre Irina Karelina.
All gathered were unanimous in opinion that “Neighbours” is a very timely initiative aiming at the creation of the Plan for Joint Actions for Sustainable Development of the Region, which is planned to be presented at the next Forum Strategov.
The Programme consists of 3 Modules: 1st (online) 18-19 November 2021, 2nd in Kaliningrad and 3rd in Stockholm. The CBSS Sustainable and Prosperous Region team will coordinate and support this work together with the Swedish Institute.
