Temporary residence permits<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In Estonia, a victim of human trafficking can be granted a temporary residence permit in order to participate in criminal proceedings in human trafficking or a related offence. The residence permit can also be given to a witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proceeding for the issue of a temporary residence permit is initiated at the written request of the Prosecutor\u2019s Office.  Minors who are at least 15 years old may participate in the residence permit process independently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conditions for issuing a temporary residence permit are that the victim:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Cooperates with the law enforcement in getting the facts relating to the criminal offence or has agreed to do so<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Has broken off all relations with the persons suspected or accused of the criminal offence<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Does not constitute a threat to public order or national security. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The duration of the temporary residence permit is from six to 12 months, renewable for up to a year at a time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The permit gives the victim a right to work. The victim is entitled to receive support from SIB during the duration of the residence permit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The permit can be revoked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • When the criminal proceedings are terminated<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • If the person is no longer contributing to the clarification of facts relating to the criminal offence<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • If the victim has voluntarily and on their own initiative renewed contacts with the suspected or accused persons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
