Since 2002 the civil protection agencies from the CBSS Member States work together to protect the region from chemical leaks and radiation and training officers to lead complex rescue operations. We ensure that this cooperation is effective and useful for all by gathering the Directors and Prosecutors General in separate meetings and Prosecutors of Environmental Crime in a conference every year to exchange latest developments and challenges and agree on the most important issues which should be tackled together.

Forest fires, floods and crime spread across borders. But national legislation and strategies to deal with such issues can differ greatly. Organised cross-border actions can save lives and money. That’s why we provide a unique platform for civil protection professionals in the Baltic Sea Region to work together – it is the only place where experts from EU countries meet their peers from Iceland, Norway and Russia.

The Baltic Sea Region is becoming more connected but that does not mean that all countries share the same understanding of threats and how to deal with them. Our goal is to build a common societal security culture.
