Summary of mapping results

We asked 993 children and young people in the Baltic Sea Region about their DRR experiences and readiness to be part of disaster risk reduction acitvities.

1. When children were asked how much they knew about disasters that could happen in the area where they live, the most frequent answer (46%) was “a little bit”, 24% answered“quite a bit” and 20(%) declared to know “almost nothing”.

2. To few children believe that they can actively contribute to mitigating and preventing disasters.

3. The majority of children think they can help others and rebuild after a disaster occurs.

4. Only a few children consider themselves unable to undertake any action to prevent or respond to disasters which is encouraging. However, few children feel adequately prepared to help themselves or others.
