{"id":1123,"date":"2024-08-30T10:08:54","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T10:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/?page_id=1123"},"modified":"2025-01-26T12:24:18","modified_gmt":"2025-01-26T12:24:18","slug":"childrens-experiences-of-drr","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/childrens-experiences-of-drr\/","title":{"rendered":"Summary of mapping results"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-82bf15d86ff892a90f82305059d403a4\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;The present survey results reiterate the need to build effective and sustainable mechanisms to regularly involve children and young people in assessing disaster risks&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We asked 993 children and young people in the Baltic Sea Region about their DRR experiences and readiness to be part of disaster risk reduction acitvities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color has-extra-large-font-size wp-elements-b101dc85c45cb94e4f0be6593e0354ab wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What did we learn?<\/span><\/strong><br><strong>Here are four key takeaways:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. <\/strong>When children were asked how much they knew about disasters that could happen in the area where they live, the most frequent answer (46%) was \u201ca little bit\u201d, 24% answered\u201cquite a bit\u201d and 20(%) declared to know \u201calmost nothing\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. <\/strong>To few children believe that they can actively contribute to mitigating and preventing disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"752\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/12\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1839\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/12\/image-2.png 752w, https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/12\/image-2-300x172.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. <\/strong>The majority of children think they can help others and rebuild after a disaster occurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"692\" height=\"382\" src=\"https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/12\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/12\/image-3.png 692w, https:\/\/cbss.org\/securekids\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/12\/image-3-300x166.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. <\/strong>Only a few children consider themselves unable to undertake <strong>any <\/strong>action to prevent or respond to disasters which is encouraging.
