Cultural Routes

The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme offers opportunities for developing both cultural heritage and sustainable cultural tourism. It serves as a tool for fostering cooperation between these sectors as well as for the enhancement of cultural heritage and could be used more effectively in the Baltic Sea Region. The Working Group on the Cultural Routes aims to support the more effective use of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme in the Baltic Sea region. The underlying principles are the core values of the Council of Europe, such as human rights and democracy, which the Cultural Routes program promotes.

The objectives of the working group include supporting the expansion of certified, thematically potential routes and helping new route initiatives in networking in the Baltic Sea region, as well as fostering cooperation between the tourism and cultural heritage sectors. The Working Group also discuses and explores the trends of cultural heritage and cultural tourism in Baltic Sea Region and exchanges best practices. The working group on the Cultural Routes was established in the autumn of 2023 based by the cooperation of the national coordinators of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme in the region.
