Estonian Presidency of the Baltic Region Heritage Committee 2024-2025
Estonia holds the presidency of the CBSS from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025. During its presidency, Estonia is committed to fostering greater regional collaboration to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Baltic Sea Region.
Safe and Secure Region
Estonia’s presidency will prioritize the role of cultural heritage in regional security. This includes continuing the work of the Illicit Trafficking Working Group to combat the illegal trade of cultural goods across borders. Estonia will also promote discussions on the importance of cultural heritage as a key element of overall security and resilience.
Sustainable and Prosperous Region
A key focus will be on enhancing the energy efficiency of heritage buildings, sharing best practices, and addressing challenges. Estonia will also support the Climate Change Working Group, which is exploring ways to protect cultural heritage from the impacts of climate change.
Regional Identity
Estonia’s presidency will focus on finding solutions for value conflicts related to cultural heritage, seeking balance between securing biodiversity and preserving cultural heritage. Additionally, attention will be given to recognition of 20th century dissonant architectural heritage.
