What have we learned about restoring nature across the Baltic Sea region?

In this closing episode of Steps for Nature, we look back on conversations from the series and the diverse ways restoration is happening across ecosystems, from forests and rivers to peatlands and the Baltic Sea.

While each episode was unique, several shared themes emerged, including the importance of long-term commitment, adapting to a changing climate, and bringing people and communities into restoration work. The conversations show that restoration is rarely straightforward, and that it depends on more than ecological knowledge alone.

At the same time, there is also a clear sense of hope. Restoration is already happening across the region, driven by people working in different contexts and at different scales, even as questions remain about pace, support, and the frameworks needed to make it last.

With Baltic Sea Day just around the corner, it is also a moment to appreciate nature across the region and the different ways people interact with it in everyday life.
