BSRYF Working Groups for the 2024/2025 term

Do you like working in an international environment? Do you enjoy delving deep into topics you are passionate about? You have the chance to become a member of the Baltic Sea Region Youth Forum Working Groups! All you need is to be between 16 and 29 years old, be connected to the Baltic Sea Region, and have an internet connection for monthly meetings.

This term, the Baltic Sea Region Youth Forum will collaborate with the CBSS through two major working groups: Culture and Safe & Secure. The Safe & Secure working group will operate in two focus groups, both dedicated to supporting existing CBSS projects. The working groups’ term will begin in September 2024 and will last until the end of June 2025.

➔  Culture Working Group

This group will focus on cultural minorities around the Baltic Sea Region and also will touch around the topic of youth councils and representative bodies at cultural institutions. The group’s capacity is ten people.  

  • All members must attend monthly meetings, discuss in the group their preferred outcome for the working group and work towards achieving the goal.  
  • All young people between 16 and 29 years old can apply if they live in one of the Member countries of Council of the Baltic Sea States or have a nationality thereof. 

If you are keen on advocating for youth in the management and direction setting of cultural institutions and passionate about cultural minority rights around the Baltic Sea Region countries then this can become your new favourite place!  

➔ Safe & Secure Working Group

1. Focus Group on Anti-trafficking:

This group will work to: 

  • Provide support in reviewing and editing materials produced by the project to ensure they are understandable from a youth perspective. 
  • Collaborate with the CBSS Team and the CYR’s Advocacy department to produce a joint position paper (political statement) addressing the issue in the Baltic Sea Region. 
  • Participate in a live study visit (maximum 4 days) in Stockholm during the autumn season (expenses paid by the organisers). 

This focus group has been established in collaboration with the CBSS Task Force against Trafficking in Human Beings (TF-THB) to support the PEX-BSR project.  

2. Focus Child participation in Disaster Risk Reduction

This part of the group will work to: 

  • Provide support in reviewing and contributing to the child participation mechanism produced by the project to ensure they are understandable from a youth perspective. 
  • Participate in the hybrid Final Conference in Stockholm and online, on 28 January 2025 (expenses paid by the organisers). 

This focus group will be established in collaboration with the CBSS Civil Security team and the Children at Risk Unit (CAR) to support the Secure Kids project. 

The overall working group will consist of a maximum of 15 people, and anyone interested is welcome to apply between the ages of 18 and 29. Relevant experience will be considered when evaluating applications. To be eligible for participating in live events, a member must attend 80% of online meetings of the working group or contribute to the group’s output  

Commitments   

Participants of the Working Group commit to:   

  • Act with good intentions and good faith towards their peers, experts   
  • Respect the values and support the mission of the Council of the Baltic Sea States   
  • Attend bi-weekly online meetings and communicate with their peers and experts in English.   
  • Be active between online meetings and contributing to policy papers drafted by the group.
