Gdańsk Forum 2023

8th Baltic Sea Region
Cultural Heritage Forum in Gdańsk
12-13 September 2023 “Heritage & crisis”

War destroyed civilization, culture, and society. The recent invasion of Ukraine profoundly influenced our lives, including the priorities of governments and international organizations. Such an event as war had a ripple effect and left no sphere of life unaffected – cultural heritage protection faced numerous challenges resulting from the upheaval. In the face of the unfolding crisis, strengthening regional cooperation and intellectual reflection were important strategic goals for the future.

The National Maritime Museum and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage organized a conference, “Cultural Heritage & Crisis,” which took place on September 12–13 in Gdańsk. The conference celebrated 20 years of cultural cooperation between the Baltic states within the Baltic Region Heritage Committee (BRHC). The goal of the conference was to diagnose the most current threats, including those of a transboundary nature, and provide an opportunity to discuss new foundations for heritage security architecture.

Programme of the Forum is available on this site.
