Long-term residence and permits

Protection (asylum)

A victim of human trafficking can apply for asylum. If the conditions for asylum are not met, the Directorate for Immigration (UDI) must consider whether the applicant meets the conditions for a residence permit granted based on compelling humanitarian considerations, including a residence permit for witnesses in human trafficking cases.

If the person has been granted a period of reflection or a limited residence permit, it is possible to apply for asylum at a later time. If the person has applied for asylum, it is possible to withdraw the asylum application and apply for a period of reflection instead.

Long-term assistance

There are no long-term integration programmes in Norway specifically for victims of human trafficking.

Victims who are granted a permanent residence permit gain access to an integration programme. They have the same access as Norwegian citizens to healthcare, professional training, education, social services and assistance in identifying professional skills and applying for work. These services are provided by the state and municipalities.
