Temporary residence permits

In addition to the temporary residence permit stipulated in Article 75 of the Act on Foreigners (see reflection period), a residence permit can also be granted based on Article 76 of the Act on Foreigners. According to this article, a victim of human trafficking, and their child present in Iceland, may be granted a renewable residence permit for following reasons:

For reasons of the individual’s personal circumstances, or
For the purpose of cooperation with the authorities in the investigation and criminal proceedings, as requested by the police

Presumed victims who obtain a temporary residence permit are entitled to access health care and social services. However, the temporary permit does allow the victims to work in Iceland.
