Green Public Procurement in the Baltic Sea & Nordic Regions – Joint CBSS & Nordic Council of Ministers Seminar held at the Secretariat

The shift towards sustainable consumption and production patterns is one of the most pressing challenges of our times. Increasing and supporting transnational cooperation can help countries in finding an adequate solution through the exchange of best practices and mutual learning.

The Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) – Baltic 2030 and the Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM), both working systemically with the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have decided to focus on the implementation of SDG12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, and to increase cooperation efforts to learn from each other’s experience.

On 19 April 2018, the CBSS and the NCM jointly organised the seminar on “Green Public Procurement – Peer learning in the Baltic Sea and Nordic Region” – an occasion for national experts from the Baltic Sea and Nordic region to exchange experience and learn about existing practices on green public procurement (GPP). The seminar was an opportunity for capacity-building, where participants discussed both strategic questions, concrete examples and case studies. EU funding for supporting peer-learning and study visits on environmental challenges, including GPP, was also introduced and discussed at the seminar.

The CBSS Latvian Presidency of the Expert Group on Sustainable Development will follow up on this seminar and organize an event on life-cycle cost in spring 2019. Any interested stakeholder is welcome to contact the Sustainable Development Unit.
