Conference in Riga to Address Child Participation in Disaster Risk Reduction
A conference in Riga will explore how children’s involvement can strengthen DRR efforts and build more resilient communities. Register now.
Child participation in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience-building will be the focus of a conference taking place in Riga, Latvia, on 28–29 January 2025. Registration is now open.
The event, titled Strengthening Resilience: Child Participation in Disaster Risk Reduction, will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and online participation.
The conference is open to experts, policymakers and practitioners, and also to interested young people. Discussions will centre on strategies for integrating children’s perspectives into DRR efforts and improving crisis communication.
The two-day event will provide a platform for knowledge exchange and capacity-building, with sessions exploring tools and methodologies to enhance resilience-strengthening activities that actively involve children. Topics will include effective crisis communication with children and children’s role in building more resilient communities.
The conference will also mark the conclusion of the CBSS-led Secure Kids project. Co-funded by the European Union, the Secure Kids project seeks to create sustainable, inclusive systems for involving children in building resilient societies that can effectively withstand and recover from hazards.
Key outcomes from the project will be presented during the event, offering participants valuable insights into best practices and lessons learned. Further information about the project can be found at cbss.org/securekids.
