Seminar on Human Trafficking and Benefit Fraud
The Swedish Parliament will host a seminar highlighting the links between human trafficking, benefit fraud, and welfare crimes, featuring the presentation of a new CBSS study by Dr. Märta Johansson.
On 13 March 2025, the Swedish Social Democrats and the Moderate Party will host a seminar on human trafficking, benefit fraud, and welfare crimes at the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm.
During the event, Dr. Märta Johansson will present the newly released CBSS study, Human Trafficking for Benefit Fraud and Related Financial Fraud: Securing a Steady Revenue Stream. Dr. Johansson will highlight key findings and discuss their implications for anti-trafficking efforts.
The study provides a legal framework for understanding benefit fraud in the context of human trafficking. It explores various fraud schemes, examining how individuals may be exploited within them. By mapping these schemes against international human trafficking definitions, the study assesses whether and to what extent those affected could be considered trafficking victims.
The report is part of the CBSS-led and Swedish Institute-funded FRAUD project, which has been working to uncover the hidden links between human trafficking and welfare-related crimes, focusing on benefit and financial fraud.
Please note that the seminar is a closed event.
