Seminar and Workshop: Towards A Green Transition In Rebuilding Ukraine
On Tuesday, 27 February 2024, the Developing Markets Platform at Business Finland, in collaboration with Savonia University of Applied Sciences and the Finnish Ministry of the Interior, will host a full-day event dedicated to exploring innovative business models, Research & Development (R&D) initiatives, and novel solutions aligned with sustainable development goals.
This event, consisting of a seminar and workshop, aims to promote sustainable business practices while adhering to the principles outlined in Agenda 2030, ensuring that no one is left behind.
These solutions, which can be called as innovations for humanitarian needs, will aid in the recovery of Ukraine’s society while promoting the country’s green transition. The event also provides a platform for companies and research and development organisations to collaborate and exchange ideas.
The event serves as part of a series focused on the green transition in terms of sustainable business amidst humanitarian crises, particularly in the context of rebuilding Ukraine. It is also a key component of the Finnish Presidency Year of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).

The focus of this first event is to:
- identify Finnish stakeholders, who have capability and potential to do humanitarian crises related sustainable business in Ukraine in the following three sectors: agriculture, energy, and municipality services.
- receive information on the concrete needs towards new technologies in terms of innovations for humanitarian needs. This will be done by benefiting from the results of the Climate Roadmap, which Savonia has made with its Ukrainian partners for the sectors mentioned above.
The seminars with workshops aim to:
- Promote long-term Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) collaboration between Finnish and Ukrainian companies and research organizations related to green transition in Ukraine.
- Find sustainable business opportunities for Finnish and CBSS member states´ companies and organizations in collaboration with Ukrainian stakeholders.
- Find suitable funding programmes from the EU.
- Find solutions how to strengthen human capital in climate innovations.
- Identify community-driven solutions that increase human security.
- Find solutions how to increase information about the climate security and how we can manage and mitigate climate risks in the Baltic Sea Region including Ukraine.
- Find solutions to the convergence between disaster risk reduction, sustainable development and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Increase understanding how to strengthen ability to innovate by powering solutions to pressing challenges.
