Food security, an essential aspect of national resilience, requires a collective approach to address diverse threats ranging from climate change and urbanisation to conflicts, natural hazards, and political instability. Such threats, associated with significant shocks and stresses, risk disrupting our basic needs for sustainable living and healthy nutrition.

The intensifying events on the international stage have elevated the importance of food security and resilience on the agendas of policymakers, both at national and municipal levels. Civil defence and resilience professionals are increasingly recognising the necessity of collaborative preparation and knowledge sharing to withstand potential turbulences. This hybrid webinar marks the initial stage of a Baltic Sea Region approach to food systems security and individual resilience. It brings together speakers and researchers with extensive expertise to foster discussions and regional initiatives on food security.

The webinar will explore three main angles:

  • planning and strategising,
  • land use and spatial planning, and regional, national, and
  • individual preparedness.

The webinar aims to serve as a launchpad for future discussions and joint initiatives, targeting food security and preparedness professionals, municipalities, researchers, and other stakeholders involved in resilience-related matters. By sharing insights and strategies, the Baltic Sea Region can enhance its readiness for future challenges, ensuring the well-being and security of its citizens.

The event is organised by PA Secure with PA Bioeconomy and PA Spatial Planning. It is hosted by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia.

The CBSS and the Swedish Contingencies Agency (MSB) coordinate the Policy Area Secure (PA Secure) of the the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR).
