The Culture for Resilience Forum 2025 gathered cultural leaders and municipal experts in Varde, Denmark for a shared look at how culture can drive social resilience in towns and cities.
Four municipalities — Glücksburg, Kristinestad-Kristiinankaupunki, Krosno and Schleswig — have been awarded the BSR Cultural Pearls 2026 title, recognising their commitment to strengthening community resilience through culture and creativity.

Over three days, the programme will feature keynote speeches, hands-on workshops, a study trip, and the festive Cultural Pearls 2026 Award Ceremony — highlighting how resilience can be built from the ground up when culture is placed at the centre of community life.
Municipalities across the Baltic Sea Region can now apply for the BSR Cultural Pearls 2026 title, with registrations now open until 4 April 2025, offering an opportunity to enhance community resilience and gain international recognition through culture-driven initiatives.

An international jury has announced the cities awarded the BSR Cultural Pearls title for the year 2024. The municipalities of Svendborg (Denmark), Kiel (Germany), Jakobstad (Finland) and Rūjiena (Latvia) were chosen from among 12 candidates from the countries around the Baltic Sea Region (BSR). These cities prepared Culture and Social Resilience Action Plans aimed at making their communities more resilient through culture and creativity.
The Baltic Region Heritage Committee (BRHC), established by the initiative of Ministers of Culture of the Baltic Sea Region in 1997, started its activities in 1998. This year marks the Committee's 25th anniversary, which was celebrated in September in Gdańsk, in connection with the 8th Baltic Sea Region Cultural Heritage Forum held at the National Maritime Museum.
