The Expert Group on Sustainable Maritime Economy (EGSME) is an intergovernmental body that consists of CBSS Member State ministry officials, including a representative from the EU Commission (Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries), who gather to exchange knowledge and practices in a spirit of cooperation and trust.
The Expert Group focuses on the Baltic Sea Region’s maritime economy’s growth potential while better protecting its marine ecosystems. This can be achieved when coastal states cooperate in and strive towards cohesive efforts in all sectors of maritime action.
It is important to maintain the balance between economic, social, and ecological aspects within the Baltic Sea Region. This allows for a better and timely resolution of conflicting interests, the harnessing of synergies and the elimination of obstacles to development.
By gathering together top national experts responsible for maritime issues and focusing their attention on specific challenges we can solve them and build up our maritime economy into that of a model region, one issue at a time.
