Registration Opens for European Forum Against Labour Exploitation

Want to join the discussions on tackling labour exploitation? Registrations are now open for the European Forum Against Labour Exploitation, which will be held in Stockholm on 7-8 December 2023.

How do European states currently perceive and tackle labour exploitation? This pressing question will take centre stage at the European Forum against Human Trafficking for Forced Labour and Labour Exploitation, scheduled for 7-8 December 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden. Registrations are now open.

The event welcomes everyone involved in the fight against human trafficking for labour exploitation. This includes policy makers and frontline professionals from sectors like labour inspectorates, law enforcement, judiciary, social services, migration agencies, legal experts, coordinators, civil society, academia, as well as stakeholders from the private sector, employer organisations and workers’ unions.

“Human trafficking and human exploitation are some of the most serious forms of crime that violate the human rights of the victims,” remarked Paulina Brandberg, the Minister for Gender Equality and Working Life of Sweden, who is set to attend and open the forum.

“These crimes are often cross-border and part of the criminal economy. It is therefore important that we cooperate internationally to fight this type of crime and learn from each other,” she added.

Spanning two days, the forum will dive into various facets of human trafficking for labour exploitation. It will discuss the efficacy of current countermeasures, highlight instances of successful prosecution within a European context, and examine challenges brought about by the recent humanitarian crisis due to the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Day 1 will spotlight panel discussions and seminars on European strategies against labour exploitation, gender misconceptions, and migrant integration. Day 2 will focus on victim assistance, legislative hurdles in countering trafficking, and best practices in prosecution.

A collaborative endeavour by the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the Swedish Gender Equality Agency, the forum symbolises united efforts to eliminate trafficking in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond.

In light of unique challenges, the forum presents an unmatched opportunity for stakeholders to foster change, encourage international collaboration, and craft effective strategies in the fight against human trafficking for labour exploitation in Europe.
