Expert Group on Children at Risk meets online to address war trauma and psychosocial support

CBSS Expert Group on Children at Risk concludes the CBSS Polish Presidency with an online meeting focused on trauma-informed support for children affected by conflict

The CBSS Expert Group on Children at Risk held its final meeting under the Polish Presidency on 27 May 2026, bringing together practitioners to exchange evidence-based approaches and field experience in trauma-informed care and support for children affected by conflict and displacement.

During the meeting, representatives from War Child and SOS Children’s Villages Poland presented TeamUp, a structured methodology using play and movement to support children aged 6–17. The approach helps children affected by conflict and displacement build resilience, reduce stress, and develop positive peer relationships. The approach has been tested in a range of humanitarian contexts, including schools and reception centers.

The second session focused on direct experience from the field. Psychologists from Dolnośląska Fundacja na Rzecz Pieczy Zastępczej Przystanek Rodzina shared experience from work with children in foster care and reception settings, exploring how systemic, relationship-based interventions can help children and young people regain safety and emotional stability after displacement and crisis.

As the Polish Presidency comes to an end, the Expert Group on Children at Risk looks ahead to continue its work under the incoming Icelandic Presidency, maintaining its focus on strengthening support for children in vulnerable situations across the Baltic Sea Region.
