CBSS Appoints New Director General
The CBSS appointed Mr Gustav Lindström as the new Director General of its Secretariat in Stockholm.

On 1 September 2024, the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) appointed Mr Gustav Lindström as the new Director General to lead its Secretariat in Stockholm, Sweden.
Mr Lindström brings extensive experience in security policy and international cooperation, having previously served as the CBSS Secretariat’s Deputy Director General and as Director of the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS). His career also includes roles at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the RAND Corporation and the World Bank.
“Together with my colleagues, we look forward to contributing to the CBSS’s continued success and adaptation to the evolving external environment,” said Lindström. “There is no shortage of issues requiring attention.”
“In line with member state priorities, we are keen to continue our efforts towards a safe and secure Baltic Sea Region. We look forward to working closely with the incumbent Estonian CBSS Presidency, supporting its priorities in areas such as resilience and sustainability,” he added.
Under the Estonian Presidency, from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, the CBSS will notably focus on civil protection, enhancing regional security, countering human trafficking, and promoting youth engagement.
Additionally, over the next year, the CBSS will prioritise green maritime initiatives and digital innovation for sustainable development, while continuing to support Ukraine in areas such as civil protection and anti-trafficking.
Mr Lindström succeeds Mr Grzegorz Poznanski, who led the CBSS Secretariat from 2020 to 2024.
