Culture for Sustainability
Memory institutions’ contribution for implementing Sustainable Development Goals
The year 2021 was declared the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development at the 74th United Nations General Assembly. The Covid-19 pandemic has revealed the vulnerabilities within the culture sector. A systematic shift towards sustainable systems is needed across various sectors. To make it happen we need a collaborative perspective and innovative solutions.
Culture is both a driver and an enabler of human and sustainable development. It stimulates innovation and creativity which can drive inclusive and sustainable economies.
The Council of the Baltic Sea States invites stakeholders from the Baltic Sea Region to discuss the topic and how to jointly initiate synergies and partnerships to reveal new perspectives and opportunities for memory institutions, contributing to implementation of the UN Agenda 2030 and its SDGs. The ideas brought up during the roundtable discussion can then be developed further during the upcoming “Museums for Sustainable Future: Localizing and Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals” conference.
