CBSS decision makers meet in Berlin, discuss dumped munitions and the role of the CBSS

The CBSS Committee of Senior Official members met in Berlin in their first meeting under the German presidency of the CBSS to address the future of the organisation and other pressing issues such as dumped munitions in the Baltic Sea.

The first meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) took place in Berlin, Germany on 14-15 September 2022. It was their first meeting under the German presidency of the CBSS.

During the CSO meeting, Germany presented its plans for the presidency, including its priorities on offshore wind energy, youth, and dumped munitions in the Baltic Sea Region.

Co-organized by the CBSS, a roundtable with leading experts on dumped munitions in the Baltic Sea is now due to be held later this year in Germany.

The CSO members also prepared the launch of a reflection process on regional cooperation and the role of the CBSS in a changed geopolitical landscape. The results will form the basis for decisions about the future orientations of the Council by the foreign ministers of the Baltic Sea countries. They are due to meet during the Council’s next CBSS Ministerial Session that will be held at the end of the German presidency in 2023.

The CBSS budget for 2023 was also discussed during the meeting. The next CSO meeting will take place in Stockholm, Sweden on 23-24 November 2022.
