BaltSusBoating 2030
The BaltSusBoating 2030 project initiates strategic cooperation at the Baltic Sea Region level for developing the Baltic Sea into a single and sustainable boating destination, and jointly promoting it in international markets.
About BaltSusBoating 2030
More than 1000 leisure boat harbours and a unique set of varied sub-destinations make the Baltic Sea an attractive boating region for sailors and motor boaters from both littoral and far away countries. Despite high-class infrastructure and an attractive destination profile of diverse nature and cultural experiences, however, it still lags behind international competitors in terms of visibility and tapping the economic potentials of leisure boating.
The BaltSusBoating 2030 project initiates strategic cooperation at the BSR level for developing the Baltic Sea into a single and sustainable boating destination, and jointly promoting it in international markets.
The project is a follow-up of the Baltic Sustainable Boating project, which concluded in March 2022 and was financed by the Swedish Institute. Information on the project is available here. The BaltSusBoating 2030 project is funded by Interreg Baltic Sea Region.
Objectives
Supported by the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), the main umbrella organisations and boating tourism actors team up to define goals and steps for collaborative destination development and joint marketing until 2030. This includes:
- establishing a pan-Baltic cooperation platform,
- the elaboration of a Sustainability Roadmap,
- knowledge exchange and peer learning activities,
- dialogue with policymakers,
- the iterative development of a joint marketing approach for the Baltic Sea as a single and sustainable boating destination.
The project lays foundations for making leisure boating in the Baltic Sea more sustainable and more competitive in international markets until 2030, by utilising new opportunities in post-pandemic boating tourism.
Role of the CBSS
The CBSS is a partner in the project and provides the political dialogue platform and interface to relevant policymakers at local, regional and national levels in all BSR countries. The CBSS links the project to the Expert Group on Sustainable Maritime Economy and ensures the alignment with the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and the CBSS Baltic 2030 Action Plan.

The BaltSusBoating 2030 consortium consists of the main umbrella organisations for boating destination development and guest boater marketing in the BSR. The project is led by the Association of Sea Cities & Municipalities (ZMiGM – Poland).
